TrafficStat FAQ

Q: Does this software keep an ongoing record of monthly usage?

A: Yes, TrafficStat keeps track of all network traffic so it is possible to track monthly usage. Be advised that the way how the traffic is counted might be different from what carriers are using for billing purposes. Therefore, the numbers reported by TrafficStat and the numbers from phone bill might be different. This difference is not expected to be big, but we suggest to try TrafficStat first and compare the results with the data from your carrier before relaying on this application.

Q: I tried to remove the program and I keep getting a message that an error prevented the file from being deleted.

A: You need to deactivate TrafficStat before removing it.

Q: When TrafficStat is enabled I get a fatal error on all my web clipping programs I use aol, espn, moviepone, pdaschedule, sportsline, usatoday, and yahoo messenger every one gave me an error. When I deactivate TrafficStat they all work.

A: There was a bug in TrafficStat versions prior to 2.2, which led to Fatal Error crash when using web clipping applications or Wireless panel in the Preferences on Handspring Treo devices. Please, upgrade to the newest version.

Q: May I know whether TrafficStat is compatible with Palm OS 5.0 running on the Tungsten T.

A: TrafficStat supports Palm OS 5 starting from version 3.0. The application was tested on Palm Tangsten T and Sony Clie NX series.

Q: Why there is no pie chart but only bar graph?

A: Most likely, your palm device is black-and-white. Unfortunately, the pie chart works only on color devices.

Q: What does the Reset button in the display do? As far as I can tell, there is no noticeable effect of pressing Reset.

A: “Reset” button returns “From” and “To” data/time selectors to the original state, which is defined by preferences. When you launch the program it will set “To” and “From” as defined. Same thing is happening when you change “From” or “To” and then press “Reset”. The description of the preferences is following. First of all, you cannot change behavior of “To:” selector, it always points to current date/time. The “From” selector can be set in 3 different ways:

  • First record. This option will set “From” to date/time of the first call record available from the log.
  • Last set value. In this case the last set date/time of the “From” selector will be saved before you exit from the program.
  • Beginning of the billing cycle. Cycle starts on day … every month. In this case the “From” selector will be set to the specified day of the current or last month, depending on current date. Don’t forget to set the start day of the billing cycle before exiting from “Preferences” dialog.

After changing preferences you will not notice changes in “From” field until you press “Reset” or exit from the program and run it again.

Q: Can TrafficStat run from external memory storage, for example memory stick?

A: No, TrafficStat doesn’t support working from external memory storage. You will need to run TrafficStat from main memory, not from memory stick.

Q: Help! I enabled “Activate after reset option” in the TrafficStat preferences, run some application and my Palm device crashed. Now, it keeps crashing right after reset and I cannot do anything.

A: Unfortunately, this can happen. TrafficStat works on rather low system level and potentially might conflict with some software. Try to reset palm while keeping “Up” button pressed. Release the button only when you will see Palm OS logo. This will prevent TrafficStat from loading after reset. Disable TrafficStat after your device started and reset it again, this time normally, not keeping any buttons pressed. Please, let us know what program and what device did you use when it happened. You can find more detailed instructions here.

Q: Why TrafficStat does not count traffic from PdaNet applications?

A: Unfortunately, TrafficStat will not be able to help here. TrafficStat captures networking traffic, while PdaNet works directly with the phone modem, bypassing PalmOS networking.
