DialStat FAQ

Q: Why my Sprint PCS Vision calls or GPRS calls are not captured?

A: The main purpose of DialStat is to track usage of air time minutes in order to help you to stay within your monthly wireless plan. The PCS Vision as well as GPRS calls are not counted against your monthly minutes, these calls are tracked either in number of kilobytes transferred to/from your device, or they are provided non-measured for a flat fee, like in case of Sprint. One more point that such connection can be up for a long time. When you connect to Internet through Sprint PCS Vision, the connection is not going down when Treo shuts itself down, it stays up until you will get/make a voice call or manually disconnect it. So, keeping track of minutes in this case is not very useful.

Though, we are considering to make this functionality optional. If users will ask, we will implement it in future versions.

Q: Why there is no pie chart but only bar graph?

A: Most likely, your palm device is black-and-white. Unfortunately, the pie chart works only on color devices.

Q: When I first installed DialStat I thought the graphs were reading a little high?

A: DialStat calculates all your minutes using standard Treo phone calls database. So if you had some minutes before installation, they will be included in the graphs.

Q: What does the Reset button on the display do? As far as I can tell, there is no noticeable effect of pressing Reset?

A: “Reset” button returns “From” and “To” data/time selectors to the original state, which is defined by preferences. When you launch the program it will set “To” and “From” as defined. The same thing is happening when you change “From” or “To” and then press “Reset”. The description of the preferences is following. First of all, you cannot change behavior of “To:” selector, it always points to current date/time.

The “From” selector can be set in 3 different ways:

  • First record. This option will set “From” to date/time of the first call record available from the log.
  • Last set value. In this case the last set date/time of the “From” selector will be saved before you exit from the program.
  • Beginning of the billing cycle. Cycle starts on day … every month. In this case the “From” selector will be set to the specified day of the current or last month, depending on current date. Don’t forget to set the start day of the billing cycle before exiting from “Preferences” dialog. After changing preferences you will not notice changes in “From” field until you press “Reset” or exit from the program and run it again.

Q: What is definition of “Calls to special numbers”?

A: All phone numbers containing 5 or less digits are considered “special”. Examples of such numbers are emergency numbers (911 in US) or your cell phone carrier special feature access numbers.

Q: How do I exclude calls to other numbers within my carrier network?

A: Unfortunately current version does not support this feature. We are considering it for future releases.
